Don Rafael Munoa was1st Prize winner in the Premio Nacional de Ilustración (Lazarillo) del Instituto Nacional del Libro in 1959, 1st Prize winner in the Premio Nacional de Dibujante de Prensa Infantil del Ministerio de Información y Turismo in 1964 and finalist in Bolonia, Italia, of the Torchio d'Oro in 1965 for "Platero y yo", by Juan Ramón Jiménez.
He published “La Enciclopedia de la Plata.Española y Virreinal Americana” in 1984 and other publications on silversmithing and Spanish jewllery. He is the member representing Guipúzcoa in the “Real Academia de la Historia” since 1988, and a member of the Hispanic Society of America.
